PAUL Faloon will referee Sunday’s Ulster Senior Club football final between Glen and Scotstown.

Faloon, who is on the inter-county panel of referees, has come to be widely regarded as one of the top officials in Ulster, with his understanding of the contact in tackles marking the Drumgath clubman out.

He also refereed Glen’s win over Errigal Ciaran in Celtic Park last year and took charge of Ballyhaise’s win over Glenullin in the Ulster IFC semi-final last weekend.

The Down referee found himself unwittingly at the centre of a storm around his native county final this year.

He had been appointed to take charge of the clash between Kilcoo and Burren before the holders objected and took a case to the DRA to try and prevent him taking charge.

The DRA threw out Kilcoo’s argument but the furore led to Faloon withdrawing from the game after the Down county board were unable to meet a number of requests he had.

Right up until an hour before the game, there were doubts over whether it would go ahead, with David Gough booked to take over from Faloon before he also pulled out after the news broke.
