Kieran Donaghy's former Kerry teammate Sean O'Sullivan believes that the presence of 'Star' in the Armagh changing room will be a massive boost as the Orchard County travel to Tralee on Saturday evening.

They take on the All-Ireland champions, in Donaghy's home ground of Austin Stacks Park, and they'll be hoping to bounce back from their first defeat of the league campaign, following their three-point loss away to table toppers Roscommon in round three.

But Donaghy's positive attitude around the training camp and his ability to analyse games will be of huge benefit to Armagh as they look to get back on track and fend off any fears of relegation.

"The Armagh players would have been down I'm sure after the result and the performance against Roscommon," said O'Sullivan, a four-time All-Ireland winner with Kerry.

"Kieran would have come into training this week and it would have been really positive, he's a really positive guy, he's got that attitude in life.

"He would have wanted them to get up off the ground, get the heads up and get right back into at training. Of course, underneath he would have been disappointed himself with how it went, we're all human, but he wouldn't have let that be shown through to the players.

"He would have got them ready to really relish the fact that, what a game and what an opportunity they have to bounce back against Kerry in Tralee, in his own hometown, in his own backyard.

"He's a great reader of a game too. He's a fantastic guy that would be able to stand back from that Roscommon game and watch the video with Kieran (McGeeney) and the rest of the management team and look at exactly where they need to improve.

"He'll try to bring those areas where they struggled in onto the training pitch, work on them and improve. That's his big thing, improving all the time."

Donaghy burst onto the inter-county scene in 2006 and rattled the net as Kerry overcame Armagh in the All-Ireland quarter-final. Donaghy went on to lift the Sam Maguire for the first time that season, winning an All-Star and Footballer of the Year in the process, with Jack O'Connor the man in charge of the Kingdom.

O'Connor made a glorious return to the hotseat last season and guided Kerry to another All-Ireland crown. O'Sullivan believes that Donaghy's insight into how the Kerry boss operates could help Armagh in the build up to the game and although Donaghy may have some inside knowledge of the Kerry team, that may not be much of an advantage.

"He obviously played under Jack and that could be a big thing, he probably knows how Jack thinks," added the Cromane clubman. "He might be able to use something along those lines.

"But in terms of an insight into how Kerry play, we have so much video analysis now and stats, we can go back a couple of years and see how teams set up. I don't think it's going to be a huge advantage to have Kieran there when their playing Kerry, I really don't, from that point of view.

"But he knows how Jack thinks, he knows how the management think, so I think that will help. Armagh and Kieran McGeeney will know well how Kerry operate and how they play, and he'll be going out to try and negate that and also play Armagh's own game."
