Leinster Senior Football Championship round one: Louth 2-24 Carlow 3-11

TWO late Louth goals put the gloss on a win for the Wee county, who will play Meath next.

Colin Kelly’s men were more economical than Carlow during the first-half and led 0-11 to 0-6 at the break. On the resumption, a Chris Blake goal brought Carlow back into contention before Louth, steadied by James Califf and Ryan Burns frees, went five clear again.

Carlow hit back with another goal - a fine effort from Darragh O’Brien - but Louth remained cool and Burns and Anthony Williams hit two more goals.

Leinster Senior Football Championship round one: Laois 3-16 Wicklow 0-18

GOALS for Laois were the difference as they overcame Wicklow to set up a Leinster quarter-final clash with Dublin.

Laois started well and, at the end of the opening quarter, led 1-6 to 0-3, with Gary Walsh netting. Wicklow hit back and, after a scoring burst, the half-time score was 1-10 to 0-8 in favour of the hosts. Wicklow kicked the first four points of the second period to cut the gap to the minimum, but then shipped 1-2, including a Ruairi O’Connor goal, as Laois gained the upper hand once more.

Wicklow remained competitive by raising white flags, but Donie Kingson eased Laois home with another major in the 66th minute.

Lory Meagher Cup: Lancashire 0-15 Sligo 1-26

SLIGO kept their hopes of reaching a Croke Park decider afloat with a comfortable win against Lancashire in Birmingham.

The Connacht side only led by two points a half-time, 0-13 to 0-11, but eventually eased away. The Yeats men face Leitrim in the final round of games next weekend.

Should they avoid defeat there, they will join Louth in the final.

Lory Meagher Cup: Leitrim 1-12 Louth 0-16

LOUTH, already through to the Lory Meagher Cup final, made it four wins out of four as they narrowly overcame the Ridge county.

Leading 0-9 to 0-6 at the interval, the win was only assured for the Wee county with a last ditch point from Mark Wallace.
