ULSTER Gaelic Club take on bitter San Francisco rivals on Sunday in the fourth round of the best-of-five series between the city's two senior clubs.

At present Sean Treacy's - managed by Ardboe native and former Tyrone underage star Gavin Teague - lead the series 2-1 so another win will see them qualify for the North American Championship finals weekend in Denver, Colorado.

Ulster will do all they can to stop them because the rivalry is real and the action will be fierce at Treasure Island, the hub for men's and ladies' football, camogie and hurling every weekend.

"For me it's every bit as intense as a club rivalry at home," said Ulster defender Jason Lennon.

"I played senior football for An Port Mor (in Armagh) for five years and I've been here 10 years. This is my club, this is all we have and the rivalry is fierce. It is a very good senior standard and there are young boys and county boys coming every year and it gets you going even more because you want to compete with them.

"I probably wouldn't be here if there was no football. I played in Australia too for two and-a-half years and Irish people don't know how lucky we are - we can go anywhere in the world, walk into a GAA club and you'll meet new people, get a job, get somewhere to live and get looked after."

The format of the GAA season in Ireland means that some of San Francisco's summer arrivals have gone home for their club championships which is a setback for both clubs but the hardcore who remain will be all-in on Sunday.

"This is the biggest rivalry in the city," says Jason.

"It's probably got bigger over the last five years because they've got the better of us. The first five years I was here, we won it every year and they took over. So we want to get it back."
