ARMAGH LGFA have today announced that Shane McCormack will be stepping down as manager of the Senior Ladies team.

The former Kildare inter-county goalkeeper initally came in as part of Ronan Murphy's backroom team, but stepped up to the managerial role at the beginning of the 2023 season.

Under his watch, Armagh won the LIDL Ladies National Football League Division Two title, winning all eight games.

In the championship, they had some high moments, including putting eight goals past Cavan in front of a capacity crowd in Clones, prior to the men's Ulster final, and defeated Mayo with a last-gasp penalty.

They were also defeated 1-10 to 0-9 by Donegal in the Ulster Championship final, and knocked out of the championship by Cork at the quarter-final stage 10 days ago.

In a statement posted to the county's social media channels they wrote: 'We regret to announce our senior manager Shane McCormack has stepped down as Armagh manager.'

McCormack also sent out a statement via the county's social media pages regarding his decision. It read:

'Due to travel demands and work commitments, I have made the tough decision to step away as manager. I am and always will be very proud of qualifying for Division One football and winning two Ulster titles in my time in Armagh.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Armagh and have made great friends and connections.

I would like to thank my management team, the players, our FLO's, the Armagh County Board, physios, and masseuses for all the selfless work they did to ensure every need was catered for'.

Armagh LGFA concluded their statement by saying: 'Armagh LGFA County Board and players wish Shane and his team best wishes in their future endeavours'.

These sentiments were echoed by Armagh LGFA Chairperson Sinead Reel personally, as she wrote: 'Thank you Shane McCormack for all you have done for Armagh, it's much appreciated and I have no doubt that you will continue to work with teams in the not too distant future! Good luck and thank you.'
