1951: England beat Australia 17-1 in Sydney, a match the Football Association does not count as a full international.

1990: Jockey Willie Carson became only the third man, after Gordon Richards and Alec Russell, to ride six winners at one meeting.

1991: Duke McKenzie became the first British-based boxer to win world titles at two different weights when he beat Gaby Canizales for the WBO bantamweight crown in Southwark. He had previously held the IBF flyweight title.

1998: David Beckham was sent off as England were knocked out of the World Cup on penalties by Argentina in the second round.

1999: Manchester United pulled out of the FA Cup in order to compete in the inaugural FIFA Club World Championship.

2001: Donegal lost a thrilling Qualifier against Kildare, the Tir Chonaill men losing 1-17 to 1-16.

2002: Kerry put five goals past Wicklow as they continued their run to that year’s All-Ireland final.

2012: Derry’s season came to an end at the hands of bogey team Longford with the Oakleaf county having a goal ruled out at the death.

2013: Jamie Clarke found the net twice as Armagh won their Qualifier against Wicklow on a convincing 2-21 to 0-2 scoreline.

2015: Leicester dismissed manager Nigel Pearson with the club saying that "fundamental differences in perspective exist between us".

2016: Southampton confirmed Claude Puel as their new manager on a three-year contract. The Frenchman was sacked after less than 12 months in the role despite steering Saints to the EFL Cup final, where they lost to Manchester United, and an eighth-place finish in the Premier League in his first season.
