Petr Korda (tennis) - Czech former tennis player, born 1968.

Andrei Kanchelskis (soccer) - former Manchester United, Rangers, Southampton and Russia winger, born 1969.

Scott Gibbs (rugby union/league) - former Wales and Lions centre, who also played rugby league for St Helens, born 1971.

Adam Parore (cricket) - former wicketkeeper who made more than 250 appearances for New Zealand and in 2011 became the first Test cricketer to climb Mount Everest, born 1971.

Marcel Wouda (swimming) - Dutch former world and multi-European champion, born 1972.

Glen Chapple (cricket) - former seam bowler who took 985 first-class wickets and was recently appointed Lancashire head coach, born 1974.

Arjen Robben (soccer) - Bayern Munich's former Real Madrid and Chelsea winger, born 1983.

Steven Taylor (soccer) - former Newcastle defender now with Peterborough, born 1986.

Jose Enrique (soccer) - retired Spanish defender who had spells with Newcastle and Liverpool, born 1986.

Martyn Waghorn (soccer) - Ipswich's former Leicester and Rangers forward, born 1990.

ON THIS DAY 

1919: One of the most successful managers in Football League history, Bob Paisley, was born. He joined Liverpool from Bishop Auckland as a player in 1939 and stayed more than 40 years with the club. He took over from Bill Shankly as manager in 1974 and led the club to six league titles, three European Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA and European Super Cups once each. He died in 1996.

2000: Bradford striker Stan Collymore headed to Spain for talks with Real Oviedo. He was to sign for the club only to walk out several weeks later, stating he had retired.

2004: Louis Saha signed for Manchester United for £12.83million, agreeing a five-and-a-half-year deal after threatening to go on strike unless Fulham allowed the transfer.

2006: The Football Association confirmed Sven-Goran Eriksson would leave his position as England manager after that summer's World Cup in Germany.

2009: Hull signed midfielder Jimmy Bullard from Fulham for a then club-record fee of £5million on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

2014: Sandro Rosell resigned as president of Barcelona.

2016: West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul announced his retirement after a career which saw him amass over 20,000 international runs across all three formats.
