1992: Snooker star Ronnie O'Sullivan's record run of 38 consecutive match wins in ranking tournaments was ended by Sean Storey.

2006: Leeds owner Ken Bates reported former club Chelsea to the Football Association, Premier League and FIFA after claiming they recruited two Elland Road youngsters by making illegal approaches. The West Yorkshire club eventually accepted a settlement fee.

2008: Surrey's Mark Ramprakash scored the 100th first-class century of his career in the LV= County Championship Division One match against Yorkshire at Headingley.

2012: Chris Hoy claimed his fifth Olympic gold medal as he, Philip Hindes and Jason Kenny won cycling men's team sprint, while American Michael Phelps secured his 16th gold medal by winning the men's 200m individual medley.

2015: Arsene Wenger finally secured victory over Jose Mourinho as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's first-half goal earned Arsenal a 1-0 win against Chelsea in the FA Community Shield at Wembley.

2016: American Jimmy Walker held off the determined challenge of defending champion Jason Day to win his first major title in the weather-affected US PGA Championship.

2016: Lewis Hamilton won the German Grand Prix, with Daniel Ricciardo in second place and Max Verstappen third.
