1930: Mick The Miller won his second successive Greyhound Derby to become the first dog to win the race twice.
1950: One of the biggest shocks in the history of the World Cup was recorded as England, who went into the finals in Brazil as favourites, lost 1-0 to a United States team of part-timers.
1990: FIFA announced the first change in football's offside law for 65 years when it ruled that players level with defenders would, in future, be onside.
2000: France beat Portugal 2-1, with Zinedine Zidane's golden goal putting them in the final of Euro 2000.
2005: Stoke parted company with manager Tony Pulis. He returned to the club a year later.
2006: Portsmouth appointed former England captain Tony Adams as assistant manager.
2007: West Ham forward Carlos Tevez turned down a move to Inter Milan after the Serie A champions imposed a deadline for him to make a decision. He later joined Manchester United.
2012: Italy beat Germany 2-1 to reach the final of Euro 2012, which they eventually lost to Spain.
2015: Former Manchester United and England full-back Phil Neville joined the coaching staff of Spanish side Valencia.
