1959: The Boston Celtics scored 173 points against Minneapolis. It was a new National Basketball Association (NBA) record points total and remains the highest score in any game not needing overtime.

1990: Cambridge became the first Fourth Division side for 14 years to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after beating Bristol City.

1991: Tony Adams played his first game for Arsenal following his release from prison. He led the team to a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury in an FA Cup fifth-round tie.

2000: Leicester won the last League Cup final at the old Wembley, a 2-1 victory over Tranmere seeing them lift the Worthington Cup.

2001: The British Horseracing Board and Jockey Club announced that racing in Britain would be suspended for seven days due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease.

2011: Birmingham beat Arsenal 2-1 to win the Carling Cup final, Obafemi Martins scoring a late winner after a mix-up between defender Laurent Koscielny and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

2016: Everton announced that billionaire Farhad Moshiri was to become "a new major shareholder" at the club and "brings the promise of new investment".
