Dunbarton progress to last 16

LAST season's IBA Irish Senior Cup runners-up Dunbarton are through to the last 16 of this season's competition.

The Gilford side hosted 2011 champions Dunluce and were in devastating form as they swept to an all rinks up 66-shot victory.

The rinks of Conor McCartan and DJ Wilson finished 17 shots ahead of Rodney Kane and Uel McKeeman while Marty Trainor overcame Barry Kane 23-10 and Andy Hughes defeated Paul Moore by nine shots.

This victory completed a satisfactory week for Dunbarton who had also booked their place in the quarter-finals of the PGL Senior Cup and only went down by a point in a league fixture at Old Bleach.

The latter, who lifted the Irish Cup for the first time last year, exited the competition when they lost by ten shots at Belmont.

The outcome was particularly ironic as the Randalstown side had also booked a PGL Cup quarter-final spot earlier in the week at the east Belfast venue.

Despite Dunluce's defeat it was a good weekend for PTBA clubs Portrush particularly impressive with an all-rinks-up 101-52 defeat of visitors Pickie.

Coleraine and Cookstown were also successful against Portadown and St James' Gate respectively while City of Derry won at Crumlin.

CYM are the only remaining BLI representatives following their thirty-shot win against Letterkenny.

Ten-times champions Bangor swamped visitors Mossley by 52 shots while Whitehead defeated Divis at the Recreation Grounds.

The third round will be played on Saturday, June 20 and the draw is as follows: Bangor v Portrush; Belmont v Cookstown; Coleraine v Larne; City of Derry v Whitehead; CYM v Ballymoney; Dromore v Ballymena; Lurgan v Dundonald; Carrick v Dunbarton.
