Law and order must be upheld in O'Connell Street

It cannot be acceptable that O’Connell Street in Dublin, despite being Ireland’s best known thoroughfare, has become such a dangerous place after dark.

The incident in the early hours of yesterday when a man was stabbed to death close to the GPO may have been sadly predictable but deserves to be regarded as a watershed.

It is essential that Gardaí are provided with the resources necessary to ensure that the rule of law and order is upheld at all times of day in the very heart of the capital city.
