West Belfast schools hit by car crime

It is outrageous that, within a matter of hours, stolen cars damaged two nearby schools during early morning crashes in west Belfast.

Pupils found a burnt-out vehicle at the entrance to St Peter's nursery school in the Falls area when they arrived on Tuesday morning, while it emerged yesterday that a different car also struck railings at John Paul II primary school off the Springfield Road before it was abandoned on an adjoining grass verge.

Even though teachers were able to proceed with all their classes, it is essential that the criminals responsible for the upheaval are brought before the courts without delay.

When convictions are obtained, it would be entirely appropriate if the defendants were ordered as part of their punishment to offer their personal apologies to both school communities.
