Farmer criticised for spreading slurry too close to fans during rainy GAA match in Cork

A video of a farmer spreading slurry close to spectators during a club GAA match in Cork has been viewed almost 600,000 times on social media.

The footage shows the driver of the tractor spreading slurry approximately 35 minutes into the Saturday afternoon Bon Secours Cork Premier JFC  quarterfinal match between the Urhan and Millstreet clubs at Kealkill on Saturday.

Cork sports journalist and author Ger McCarthy captured the video and posted it on X, formerly Twitter.

Soon after the farmer started spreading slurry, fans who had gathered to watch the game in the pouring rain were forced to move away from the sideline to avoid the spray.

Neither club officials nor spectators had been warned about the spreading beforehand, according to CorkBeo

Some commenters on social media were outraged calling it "disgusting" and "wrong on so many levels".

However, some have come to the farmer's defense, arguing that agricultural work needs to continue regardless of community events, especially with the deadline for slurry spreading coming up on October 8th.
