FORMER Dallas star Patrick Duffy is to lead this year's St Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin.

The actor, who played Bobby Ewing in the US hit series, will celebrate his birthday as the 'international guest of honour' at the event on March 17.

Duffy visited Ireland in 2022 to trace his own Irish roots in Kilmovee, Co Mayo.

The 73-year-old actor, whose grandfather emigrated to America in the 1920s, spoke of his delight at the offer.

"Nothing gives me more pride than being asked to be guest of honour at this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin.

"I can feel my grandfather’s joy in my returning to his homeland to represent the Duffys and express our gratitude for all this great country has given us. I feel like I am returning home and want to meet my extended family."

Duffy will be among more than 4,000 participants due to take part with the parade set to be broadcast live on RTÉ One.

More than half a million spectators are expected to attend the St Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin. It will run from Parnell Square to the Cuffe St/Kevin St junction.

Richard Tierney from the St Patrick’s Festival said: "We are so delighted to welcome Patrick Duffy to Ireland.

"Patrick is a bona fide legend of the screen and holds a special place in the hearts of so many Irish households, so it’s a real pleasure to be able to bring him centre stage for the festival and the parade."
