A MAN in his early seventies has died in an accident on a potato farm near Stamullen, Co Meath.

The man, named locally as Gabriel Howard, a leading figure in cycling, was hit by a teleporter while working on the farm at around 3.30pm on Friday.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, but was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating.
