A DUP councillor claims a social media account linked to her business was hacked and a "deplorable" comment on the flooding in Newry was posted.

Sharon McKillop, a Causeway Coast and Glens Alderman, is the owner of the Blackwater Bar in Dervock.

In a comment, under the name of the Blackwater Bar, the poster wrote: "Good enough for Newry & everyone in it". This was followed by an emoji supporting the sentiment.

But in a comment posted on Wednesday afternoon from the Blackwater Bar, it was stated: "My business account was hacked last night and a deplorable comment was made by an unknown person. We have taken steps to ensure this does not happen again.

"We wish to dissociate ourselves from this comment completely."

It continued: "Our thoughts are with residents and business owners across Northern Ireland who are struggling to deal with the reality of flood damage.

Prior to the denial of any link with councillor McKillop, the comment was spread widely, attracting criticism.
