Man arrested after suspected firearm and ammo recovered in Derry

The suspect was arrested under the Terrorism Act on Tuesday after a vehicle search

A man in his 50s has been arrested under the Terrorism Act after a suspected firearm and ammunition was recovered from a vehicle in Derry.

Police officers stopped the vehicle in the Letterkenny Road area of the city at around 6.45pm, before the search was carried out and the items recovered.

The man was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite in Belfast for questioning.



A PSNI spokesperson said the suspected firearm and ammo will be subject to forensic testing

They added that further searches linked to the investigation would be carried out in the area.
