A pipe bomb has partially exploded outside the home of a woman in her 20s in Co Derry.

The attack occurred on Wednesday night at around 11.30pm at the woman’s home in Heron Way, Co Derry.

The woman was uninjured, but damage was caused to the door of the house.

A number of nearby homes were evacuated for a time while police examined the scene.

The device has been recovered for forensic examination.

The PSNI have said establishing a motive for the attack will be part of the investigation, however, a sectarian hate crime motivation is one line of enquiry.

Detectives at Strand Road CID are appealing for information regarding the incident, and anyone who may have captured any footage in the area on Wednesday evening are urged to contact police quoting reference 2099 18/10/23.
