A NEW romantic comedy drama filmed and set in Belfast is to hit TV screens next month.

The Lovers, starring west Belfast actress Roisin Gallagher and British actor Johnny Flynn, will be screened on Sky Atlantic and the NOW TV streaming platform from September 7.

Written by Belfast's David Ireland and directed by BAFTA winner Justin Martin, the six-part Sky Original series also features Game of Thrones' Conleth Hill and Star Trek star Alice Eve.

It tells the story of a political broadcaster with a "perfect London life and a celebrity girlfriend" who falls for a Belfast supermarket worker, and is described as a "sexy, funny, fight-y love story about two people who appear to be utterly wrong for each other – yet may just be utterly right".
