Police have warned of traffic disruption ahead of the annual 'Tour of the North' parade in Belfast.

Eleven bands and around 500 participants are expected to take part in the parade on Friday, which is regarded as a major event in the Orange marching calendar.

The Parades Commission has ruled that only a single drumbeat should be played along a section of the route from the Westlink junction with Clifton Street and the junction of Union Street and Donegall Street, past St Patrick's Church, on both the outward and inward journeys.

Police have said that a number of diversions will be in place from 6.30pm as the parade makes its way through parts of north Belfast.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "Road users are advised to expect delays in the vicinity of Carlisle Circus/ Clifton Street/ Donegall Street between 6.30pm and 9.30pm.

"The Westlink will remain open, however diversions will be in place at the off slips at Clifton Street.

"Delays are expected at York Street and in the area of Tigers Bay/ Shore Road between 6pm and 9pm.

"Access to the Mater Hospital will be available throughout."
