DUP councillor Mark Cooper has said it is an "honour and privilege" to be elected mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Mr Cooper was appointed mayor at the Annual Meeting of the council on Tuesday evening, while Sinn Féin councilor Rosie Kinnear was named deputy mayor for the year ahead.

Both were re-elected to the council earlier in May, with Mr Cooper representing the Three Mile Water DEA, while Ms Kinnear represents Glengormley.

"I look forward to my term in office and serving the people of our borough," Mr Cooper said. I would like to pay tribute to my colleagues Alderman Stephen Ross and Councillor Leah Smyth for their exemplary work in the past year.”
