Belfast-shot action comedy sold at Cannes Film Festival

A new movie shot in Belfast with stars including Christopher Waltz and Lucy Liu has been sold to international distributors at the Cannes Film Festival.

Old Guy, an action comedy directed by Simon West, recently wrapped filming in Belfast, where its stars were spotted shooting scenes at locations including Little Donegall Street.

Produced by the Highland Film Group and backed by Northern Ireland Screen, the movie is now in post-production and was has been shopped to buyers at Cannes.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed the film has been sold to a number of international distributors, for regions including the UK, France, Scandinavia, eastern Europe and Latin America.

The deals took place at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which is running in the famous French Riviera resort until Saturday.

The movie by Simon West, best-known for directing 90s action thriller Con Air, tells the story of an aging hit man, played by Christopher Waltz, who is pulled back into a life of crime to train a young assassin played by Licorice Pizza star Cooper Hoffman.

Charlie's Angels star Lucy Liu appears as a love interest to Waltz's character in the film, which will see a likely release date of 2024.
