A 59-year-old man is due to appear in court on Monday in connection with an assault on a police officer in south Belfast.

The man is charged with assault on police, resisting police, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possession of a Class B controlled drug.

He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court.

It is understood the charges relate to an incident in the Wildflower Way area on Friday night when a police officer suffered a thumb injury during an arrest operation.

The officer was treated in hospital.
