A MAN has been struck with a hammer during an aggravated burglary in north Belfast.

Police said that two men entered a house in the Silverstream Road area on Sunday at around 11.15pm.

"A man, who was inside the property at the time, was hit across the knee and back by one of the men who was armed with a suspected hammer," a PSNI spokeswoman said.

"The men then made off on foot. Both of the masked suspects were of medium build and were wearing dark-coloured clothing.

"Our investigation is now underway to establish what happened, who was involved and a motive."

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
