A MAN was left unconscious and needing hospital treatment following a serious Christmas Day assault in north Belfast.

Shortly before 11.10pm on December 25 police received a request for assistance from members of the Ambulance Service, who were attending to a man who had been beaten on Brompton Park in Ardoyne.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the man, aged in his thirties, had received multiple serious injuries. The attack, which left the man hospitalised, is being treated as grievous bodily harm with intent.

The suspected assailant is described as approximately 5ft 8in tall, aged in his thirties, of slim build and dark-haired with facial stubble. He was believed to be wearing dark jeans with a dark jacket.

Police have appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this violent assault, or who may have CCTV or other footage which could assist, to contact detectives.
