A Fermanagh-born woman was among the victims of a mass shooting in a small city north of Toronto in Canada last Sunday.

Lorraine Manock (71) was shot dead along with her husband 75-year-old Russell and three others at an apartment block in Vaughan.

The 73-year-old suspected shooter, Francisco Villi, was shot and killed by police in a hallway on the third floor of the high rise building.

Mrs Manock, who was born Helen Johnston but was known as Lorraine, emigrated with her family from Enniskillen to Canada in the late 1950s, a relative told the Impartial Reporter.

Her cousin, Charlie Johnston, from Enniskillen, told the newspaper: "She was a lovely girl. She had three lovely children and I don't know how they must be feeling. Russell was a lovely man. He was a professional accountant."

Rita Camilleri, 57, Vittorio Panza, 79 and Naveed Dada, 59, were the other victims.

Mrs Manock was the "most loving” mother, grandmother and sister, a “selfless, generous, kind soul” who “touched every person’s lives that she ever met,” he said.

A sixth victim, the wife of the board's president, was injured in the shooting and remains in hospital with serious injuries.

According to court documents, Villi was in dispute with the board and filed several lawsuits that a judge threw out after describing them as "frivolous".

Most recently, Mr Villi, representing himself, sought millions of dollars in damages against six defendants, accusing them of “deliberately causing harm, stress physically, mentally, financially, confusion inability to rest and sleep for over 5 years, torment, torture.”

He was due to appear at a court hearing on Monday as he was facing temporary eviction from the building.

John Di Nino, the condominium board's president, said he was in his apartment when the gunman showed up at the door and shot his wife, Doreen Di Nino.

A candlelight vigil was held at the apartment complex last night. As each of the names were read out there was a moment of silence.
