MOTORISTS on a stretch of the main Belfast to Derry road are to face restrictions as a £2 million resurfacing scheme gets underway next week.
The work will focus on the A6 Glenshane Road between the Lurganagoose Road junction and Castledawson Roundabout, and will see the road fully closed to motorists on certain weekends until November 30, when the resurfacing is due to be completed.
The four-kilometre stretch will see a 40 mph speed limit in place, with overtaking prohibited during weekdays, while the weekend closures will last from 7pm on Fridays through to 6am on Mondays.
The first weekend closure will take place on September 30, and signed diversions will be in place.
A Department for Infrastructure spokesperson said it has "has carefully planned these road works and associated traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public".
They added: "Road users are advised to avoid the area whenever possible and to allow extra time for their journey and to follow the alternative routes which will be clearly signed on the approaches to the closures. During construction access for local residents and businesses will be facilitated where possible."
