THE funeral of a Co Fermanagh man who died in a tragic accident while power-washing is due to take place on Thursday.

Michael Doonan from Teemore was working at a property in the Doon area of Derrylin on Monday when the accident happened.

It is understood that he had been power-hosing a shed and using an elevated working platform.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A man in his 60s has sadly passed away following an incident in the Doon Road area of Derrylin".

Police are not treating the cause of death as suspicious.

The father-of-two, who was originally from Kinawley, was a window cleaner and power-washer and had previously ran a taxi business.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Doonan, with many describing him as a "gentleman".

One woman wrote on social media: "Mickey was a lovely man. Always kind and generous to us in Teemore. Such a loss".

Another said he was a "true wee gentleman, he was so caring and thoughtful, always ready for a wee chat every time you met him", while another said he was a "great friend and work mate".

Independent councillor Bernice Swift said Mr Noonan was always "willing to help others" and was a "character who enjoyed life".

"My sincere condolences to all of Mickey's family circle and many friends at this devastating time of such tragic loss, news of which has shook every fibre of our being," she told the Fermanagh Herald.

"I knew and fondly remember Mickey especially when travelling on his infamous bus to my cousin's hen party in Dublin and Glór Tire in Galway to name but two events where I listened to a mixture of Mickey's stories along the way.

"No doubt Mickey Doonan's bus bookings will be remembered by many young and old alike who were also transported to discos, weddings and functions alike.

"Mickey certainly was a character who enjoyed life and was always willing to help others.

"He will be a huge loss to the local community."

Requiem Mass will take place today at St Mary’s Church, Teemore at 11am followed by burial in Callowhill Cemetery.

Mr Doonan is survived by his partner Philomena and children Brian and Lucinda.
