The mother and father of Wrightbus owner Jo Bamford contributed £23,853 to the cost of Boris Johnson’s post-wedding celebrations, updates to the MPs’ Register of Interests shows.

Mr Johnson’s entry in the register, published on Thursday, included the donation from Lord and Lady Bamford, who hosted the party at their Cotswolds estate in July.

The money covered the cost of a marquee, catering, waiting staff, Portaloos, flowers, a braai (a South African BBQ) and an ice cream van.

The son of Lord and Lady Bamford was handed a £11.2 million UK Government grant to build hydrogen buses. Jo Bamford's Wrightbus, based in Ballymena, was given the cash in March 2021.

He bought Wrightbus out of administration in October 2019. Focusing on lower emission vehicles and hydrogen in particular, the company has grown its workforce from 56 to more than 900 in under three years.

Lord Bamford, chairman of JCB, has been a long-running supporter of Mr Johnson.

He has given millions of pounds to the Conservative party since 2001 and has been a supporter of Mr Johnson since the pair were involved together on the Vote Leave campaign in 2016.
