THE funeral of Jack de Bromhead is due to take place in Co Waterford tomorrow.

The 13-year-old, son of acclaimed racehorse trainer Henry, died in a horse racing accident in Co Kerry on Saturday.

The young jockey had been taking part in Glenbeigh horse and pony race at Rossbeigh beach when it is believed he fell from his horse. Jack received treatment at the scene but was later pronounced dead.

The racing event was immediately cancelled following the incident.

His family have described him as "a one-of-a-kind child".

In a statement, they said: "On 3 September, we said goodbye to our extraordinary, beautiful 13-year-old son Jack. A one-of-a-kind child who touched all our lives in the best way possible – he will forever be present in our lives.

"Always cherished, always loved, frozen in time with a beautiful young soul.

"He was an amazing son who told us he loved us every day – an over-brimming heart of loyalty, empathy, patience, pluck, courage and how he made us laugh."

The statement also said that he was "the perfect, funny, loving son" and an "incredible, loving brother" to his twin sister Mia and younger sister Georgia.

"He always had their back and was fiercely loyal and kind," they said.

"Our hearts are truly broken."

Funeral mass for the teenager is due to take place at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Butlerstown tomorrow at noon followed by a private cremation service.

His family said that donations, if desired, can be made to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.
