A WOMAN and her three children have escaped injury after two petrol bombs were thrown at a house in Co Derry early this morning.
The woman was asleep in the living room when the bombs were thrown at the house in Mossvale Park in Coleraine shortly after midnight.
The devices caused scorch damage to the front door and a window.
The window was also smashed during the attack.
The woman lives in the house with her three children, aged 13, 17 and 21. Police said they were not injured but have been left badly shaken. Officers said they are still trying to establish a motive for the attack. It is understood the house has previously been targeted three times.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
SDLP East Derry MLA Cara Hunter said it was fortune no one was seriously injured.
"Given that two petrol bombs were thrown directly at this property, it’s a miracle that nobody was seriously hurt and only minor damage was caused," she said.
"The inhabitants of this house have been left badly shaken following what must have been a terrifying experience and the entire community will have been disturbed that this attack has taken place on their doorsteps.
"This is a serious incident which could have resulted in tragedy, those who carried it out did so with no regard for the safety and well-being of people in this area."
Sinn Féin East Derry MLA Caoimhe Archibald said she was alarmed to hear of the attack.
"This petrol bomb attack on a house in Mossvale Park is wrong and I utterly condemn it," she said.
"Thankfully no one was injured in this incident but it must have been a frightening experience for those in the house.
"Anyone with any information on this incident should bring it forward to the PSNI."
The attack comes after two homes were targeted in separate petrol bomb attacks in Co Antrim at the weekend.
A couple and their child escaped injury after a petrol bomb was thrown at their home in Prospect Park in Carrickfergus on Saturday.
Petrol bombs were also thrown at a woman's house in Glendun Close in Portrush early on Saturday morning.
