Police are treating the discovery of an unignited petrol bomb at a property in Newry as a hate crime.

The object was found on Thursday morning at the property in the Lackan Road area.

It is believed it was left at the property sometime between midnight and 8.45am.

A PSNI spokesperson said the resident had been asleep and "thankfully did not come to any harm".

"However, ignition could have had devastating consequences to him and his property. We are treating this incident as a hate crime," they said.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information, or who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time the incident took place to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 363 25/05/23.”
