STRIKING artwork is being featured at a Belfast charity shop to encourage shoppers to support the planet.
The art displays have been painted onto the British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland’s (BHF NI) store to urge people to shop sustainably with the charity.
The windows and shutters of the Fountain Street shop in Belfast city centre have been given a makeover, thanks to the work of two local artists.
Visual artist Ray Bonner has transformed the shop’s shutters by depicting BHF mascot 'Mr Hearty' diverting pre-loved items from landfill and instead donating them to the BHF store.
Multimedia artist Carla Hodgson has created an eye-catching visual display on the shop’s windows, highlighting how donating to and shopping with the BHF is sustainable for the environment.
Each year, the BHF NI’s seven stores across Northern Ireland divert around 371 tonnes of waste from landfill.
By shopping with the BHF NI, customers are also helping to raise vital funds for life-saving research into heart and circulatory diseases and their risk factors.
In Northern Ireland, the charity has funded almost £10 million of scientific research into better treatments for conditions like heart failure, diabetes and atrial fibrillation.
Fearghal McKinney, head of BHF NI, said: "It is incredible to see Ray and Carla’s artwork adorning the windows and shutters of our Belfast shop.
"Their stunning displays will be a real head-turner for shoppers in Belfast city centre and we hope they will encourage more people to donate and shop with the BHF NI."
