AROUND 15 people gathered in a south Belfast park yesterday carrying a Russian flag.

Social media users reported they had spotted the crowd in the Ormeau Park yesterday morning.

One man posted an image on Twitter of the group, who were gathered close to the old bandstand in the park, carrying the flag amid the continuing conflict in Ukraine.

Another man wrote on Twitter: "I know it’s a free country but.... cycling back from gym through park and saw about 15 people with Russian flags at the old bandstand Ormeau Park".

It comes as residents in the area have recently been sending out a message of solidarity to the people of Ukraine by attaching ribbons and posters to the Ormeau Park gates.

Blue and yellow ribbons adorn the entrance to the park as well as personal messages of support from local people.
