THE funeral of a teenager killed after he was struck by a car in Co Down is to take place tomorrow.

Family and friends are due to gather in Castlewellan to say their final farewells to Marc Quinn (18) following his tragic death on Sunday.

Police said Mr Quinn, who was a pedestrian, died following a collision on the Newcastle Road in Castlwellan shortly before 1.30am.

It is understood he may have been at a friend's 18th birthday party before the crash happened.

The teenager, who was from the Co Down town, has been described as "an extremely talented and committed footballer".

A senior player with Aughlisnafin GAC, the club said he "made many friends wherever he played".

He was also the son of the club's secretary Jenny and former player Garry and brother of senior footballer Ruairi and U15 footballer Ryan.

"Such an unassuming and polite young man who was extremely well thought of both within our club and wherever he went," the club said.

Friends of the young man also paid tribute to him on social media, describing him as a "genuine guy and such a good friend" and "an absolute gent".

Another pal said he was "such a kind funny and genuine lad".

Requiem Mass for Mr Quinn will be celebrated at St Malachy's Church today at 2pm followed by burial in St Mary's Cemetery Aughlisnafin.

The teenager is survived by his parents Gary and Jenny, brothers Ruairí and Ryan and wider family circle.
