A DIVER who died while retrieving golf balls from a lake of a golf course in Co Antrim is understood to have been working with his son-in-law.

The man, who was in his fifties, died after diving with another man at Hilton Templepatrick on Tuesday afternoon.

It is understood the men ran a company, based in Co Antrim, which specialises in retrieving golf balls and selling them.

Police received a report shortly before 2.05pm on Tuesday that a man had got into difficulties in the lake.

It is understood a specialist police diving team recover the man's body five hours later.

It is believed that the man may have suffered a health complaint while in the water.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is investigating the man's death.

A spokeswoman said yesterday: "Environmental health officers from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council are carrying out an investigation under the Health and Safety at Work Order (Northern Ireland) 1978.

"As this is a live investigation no further detail can be provided at this time."

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said it is not involved in the investigation.
