Council 'no other option' but to close community games area in Drumquin after acts of vandalism

A COUNCIL has said it has been left with "no other option but to close" a community Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) after it was vandalised.

Fermanagh and Omagh District councillor Errol Thompson said in recent days, the playing surface at the MUGA in Drumquin had been set alight while the enclosed fencing had also been damaged.

He also revealed that "significant rubbish" had also been dumped.

Mr Thompson, who said he was appalled by the vandalism said access to parks and outdoor spaces "is vitally important for our health and wellbeing"

"Unfortunately, given the scale of the damage to the MUGA, the council has been left with no other option but to close while the damage is assessed and repairs undertaken," he said.

"This is a real loss for the community. I would appeal to those involved in these destructive acts to stop".
