MONDAY'S meeting of Stormont's leaders has been thrown into doubt in a row over the agenda.

There was an angry reaction when Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald's said she would be chairing the latest party leaders' forum.

"I will chair a meeting of the party leaders forum on Monday, and it is expected that the assembly will be re-convening early next week on this matter also," the Sinn Féin leader said after yesterday's round table meeting with Brandon Lewis over the British government's legacy proposals.

The chair of the regular party meetings is rotated, with Sinn Féin due to take responsibility on Monday.

It now appears that Alliance leader Naomi Long and her Ulster Unionist counterpart Doug Beattie will not attend.

Mrs Long accused the Sinn Féin president of attempting to "spin it as their initiative and focused on legacy issues".

Mr Beattie said he would not allow republicans to use the meeting as a "political prop".

He accused Sinn Féin of "misrepresenting" the role of the forum, a regular series of meetings agreed in last year's New Decade New Approach deal.

DUP leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson said the forum was not a "single issue agenda meeting".

It is understood SDLP leader Colum Eastwood plans to attend.

Sinn Féin said it put legacy on the agenda "given the huge hurt caused by the British government to victims and survivors by their latest legacy proposals".
