AN attack on a house in Co Armagh last weekend has been branded "cowardly".

The PSNI last night said a number of items were thrown at the door and side of the house at Kernan Close in Portadown by three men at around 5.20pm on Saturday.

The culprits then made off on foot from the area.

A spokesman for the PSNI last night said "enquiries are continuing and at this stage" and that the incident is being treated as a "hate crime".

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd hit out at those behind the attack.

"This attack is yet another despicable outworking of racism which continues to plague our constituency," he said.

“I condemn outright this cowardly act of criminal damage upon the home of people who contribute far more to our society than faceless bigots with nothing to offer apart from hatred, narrow-mindedness and bitterness."

He said everyone has a part to play in tackling racism.

“I urge people to report any incidences of racism to the authorities, and to continue to enlighten and educate others to the wrongs of prejudice in order that we remove this scourge on society and live harmoniously with people of all backgrounds," he said.
