NEW loyalist banners featuring political figures from Britain, Ireland and the USA are being erected across parts of the north.

The anti-Northern Ireland Protocol banners, which are the latest in a series to appear across the north in recent months, say "Ulster is British and this we will always maintain".

Under the UK's Brexit agreement with the EU, the protocol has led to checks on goods coming from Britain into the north's ports and airports, creating a de facto Irish Sea border which has angered unionists and loyalists.

On the new banners, one of which was put up on the Shankill Road in west Belfast in recent days, states: "Europe~UK~USA~Ireland. Choose one or the other, it's your decision.

"Political leaders are not listening. Ulster is British and this we will always maintain."

Images of European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šef?ovi?, British prime minister Boris Johnson, American president Joe Biden and the Republic's Foreign Affairs minister Simon Coveney are displayed on the banner.

There are also images of the Good Friday Agreement booklet, a map of Northern Ireland featuring the Union flag and a Northern Ireland Protocol document.

It is understood that the banners are expected to be displayed at various locations across the north over the coming days.

On Twitter Unionist Voice said it was "sending a clear message in relation to the violence-rewarding Protocol" as it pointed out "peaceful" loyalist protest parades were due to resume from last night.
