STARS of hit crime drama Line of Duty have bought new kits for two Belfast football teams bearing the logo AC-12.

The under-13 and 15 girls at Belfast Celtic Young Men & Ladies have received sponsorship from three of the show's leading actors, Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar.

It comes after Compston, who plays Steve Arnott in the BBC One series, which is filmed largely in Belfast, spotted a social media plea for help.

The Greenock-born actor contacted the club and enlisted the help of his Line of Duty co-stars.

Compston, who is a Celtic FC supporter, even helped contribute to the design of the kits, which will now feature the slogan AC-12 - the police anti-corruption unit featured in the programme.

The kits are due to be worn by the two teams next season.

In a post on Twitter, the club wrote: "Belfast Celtic Young Men & Ladies are thrilled to announce that Line of Duty stars Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar have decided to purchase our girls teams new kits for the upcoming season.

"Line Of Duty has been a massive hit and the stars have spent the last ten years in the city filming the hit show.

"This is an amazing gesture from the AC-12 team and the club are so thankful for the kits.

"We hope to see them soon back filming in Belfast and maybe get them up to watch the girls team when safe to do so. Thank you."

Responding to the news on Twitter, Compston wrote: "Delighted we could help. Look forward to seeing the strip."
