A CO Armagh school has been forced to shut after "a number" of positive Covid-19 cases - the second time it has been affected this month.

Clounagh Junior High School in Portadown announced yesterday that it would be closed for the rest of the week.

School exams are due to begin on Monday. There are almost 700 pupils attending, almost all of whom are in Years 8-10.

The outbreak comes just days after the nearby Craigavon Senior High School (CSHS) campus in Portadown shut for two weeks after almost 50 young people tested positive in just four days.

Many children at Clounagh would have older siblings attending CSHS.

Clounagh revealed details of the latest outbreak on social media shortly before 9am yesterday.

In a post, the school said: "Due to a number of positive Covid-19 tests, Clounagh JHS will be closed - Thursday 19th & Friday 20th November, 2020 to all pupils.

"School will be in contact about arrangements for Monday 23rd November, 2020. If your child has left for school please make arrangements to collect them ASAP.

"Folders for revision can be collected from school."

It is the second time the school has been affected by the pandemic in a week and since pupils and staff returned after the extended Halloween break.

On November 11, it reported that a member of the school community had tested positive. This resulted in all pupils within one bubble being sent home for 14 days.

The school was also touched by Covid-19 in September and October.
