A convicted murderer who has been on the run for more than two years was last night in gardaí custody.

Thomas McCabe had been unlawfully at large since 2018.

The 56-year-old was sentenced to life for murder in 1990 of a teenager in London but was released from prison on licence.

Police said he had been unlawfully at large since his licence was revoked in January 2018 following several breaches.

In June this year, a reward of up to £5,000 was offered for information leading to McCabe's arrest.

A PSNI spokeswoman last night said: "Unlawfully at large 56-year-old Thomas McCabe has been arrested by An Garda Síochána and remains in custody at this time.

"We would like to thank those members of the public who responded to our appeals for information," she said.
