A Polish tourist has offered a €200 reward for the return of a beloved teddy bear lost during a trip to Ireland.

Dr Marcin Szczechowicz placed an advert in The Irish News in a desperate appeal for information about the small brown bear.

A similar ad was also placed in The Irish Times while an appeal has been posted on buy and sell website Gumtree.

The teddy bear was brought on a holiday to Ireland earlier this month and was thought to have been misplaced while visiting the north.

Dr Szczechowicz, who lives in the German city of Essen, is offering a cash reward for the return of the toy he simply calls 'The Small Teddy Bear'.

The cuddly toy was misplaced after Dr Szczechowicz visited his brother who lives in Co Cavan.

The advert reads: "Lost a very tiny brown bear, 8cm tall, somewhere in Ireland.

“Most likely on the Downpatrick Head cliffs or at the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland or in Belfast at the Titanic.

“You will be rewarded.”

Dr Szczechowicz told The Irish News his family has a strong attachment to the lost bear.

“I visited my brother in Ireland and did some outdoor activity,” he said.

“We were on the cliff and lost him and he is of sentimental value.”

He said the bear is a popular charm with members of his family.

“He has been with us for a long time, with our family,” he said.

“We took him everywhere, to job interviews, exams and holidays and so on.”

He said the bear was especially important to his wife.

“My wife had a hole in her pocket and it could be anywhere,” he said.
