Police have arrested two people after a serious assault on a man in west Belfast.

The 28-year-old victim was reported to have been attacked by two men on Divis Street at around 8.30pm last night. He sustained a number of injuries after being struck with a wheel brace and a machete. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for a suspected fracture to his arms and lacerations to his arm and head.

The men made off in a black BMW car that was driven by a woman.

The PSNI said today they have arrested a 26-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. They remain in custody at this time.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
