Several people were evacuated from their homes last night after a gorse fire broke out near Loughmacrory in Co Tyrone.

The fire began on bogland close to a farmhouse on Fingrean Road yesterday evening.

Firefighters and volunteers spent several hours battling the blaze.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Other gorse fires have been reported around Dungannon, Co Tyrone, in recent weeks.

Fire crews also dealt with a string of fires in south Down at the start of this month.
