TRIBUTES have been paid to the victims of two separate road crash tragedies over the Christmas period.

Mona Maye, who was aged in her 60s and from Dungannon, was killed in a collision on the M1 motorway on Monday.

Pedestrian Joseph Daly from Eglish also died after a crash involving three vehicles in Co Armagh on Sunday.

Family and friends of both have been paying tribute on social media describing their devastation following the deaths.

Ms Maye, a mother-of-three, was the driver of a blue Volkswagen Bora which was involved in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Golf on the Belfast-bound carriageway close to the Tamnamore junction shortly after 7pm.

A man and woman who were travelling in the Golf were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

Her daughter Grace Maye wrote of the family's heartbreak on Facebook.

"No words. Our world is shattered. R.I.P mummy," she said.

Messages of condolence have been posted online to Ms Maye, with many describing her as "a lovely lady".

"Mona and her twin sister Noreen were two of the greatest girls ever to exist. Always remember the kindness they showed to us," said one friend.

Another tribute said she was "such a lovely lady, always cheerful", with another adding that "she was an inspiration".

Other tributes said she was "a lovely lady and always had time for a chat".

Ms Maye is survived by her daughters Melanie, Emma and Grace and family circle.

Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Church of St Patrick in Dungannon today at 10am followed by interment in Carland Road Cemetery.

Meanwhile, the pedestrian who died following Sunday's crash in Poyntzpass was named locally as Joe Daly.

The crash happened around 6.10pm and involved three vehicles - a silver Mitsibushi Shogun, a red Vauxhall Astra and black Volkswagen Tiguan.

Police said they attended, along with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, but the man died at the scene.

The road reopened on Monday afternoon, after being closed in both directions following the tragedy.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them and to provide dash-cam footage.

Tributes have described Mr Daly as a "good lad" and "one of a kind", with many writing of their shock at his passing.

A pal of Mr Daly wrote on Facebook that he was "a special wee man, kind, generous, very hard working funny and very highly thought of by me and my family, we will miss him dearly".

Another said: "I was lucky enough to live with Joe over here in Australia. He made me laugh. You will be missed mate".

Requiem Mass will take place today at St John's Church, Moy at noon with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

He is survived by his parents Yvonne and Joseph and siblings Cathal, Joanne and Katherine.
