POLICE have urged householders in east Belfast to be vigilant after an attempted burglary.

At about 3pm on Tuesday, a man claiming to be from the Housing Executive called at a house in the Hornby Crescent area.

The man, who arrived in a white van and was wearing a pass, told the householder he was there to work on the shower.

The householder later followed this up with housing officials who confirmed they had not sent anyone to the property.

A PSNI spokesman said: "In this case, the caller left empty-handed.

"The occupants, however, have understandably been left shaken."

The man, believed to be aged in his forties, was described as slim to medium build. He was wearing a shirt and work trousers.

Police said it was the second incident of its kind recently reported in east Belfast.
