FORMER PSNI Chief Constable George Hamilton has joined the board of Co-operation Ireland.

Sir George is the second appointment to the board in 2019, with former SDLP leader Margaret Ritchie joining the charity in April.

He has taken up the role after a 35 year policing career in both Northern Ireland and Scotland.

Co-operation Ireland works to promote and encourage interaction, dialogue, and practical collaboration between people in the north and Republic.

It aims to create a "peaceful and stable island" where people of all backgrounds live and work together.

"I am looking forward to engaging with and supporting the work of Co-operation Ireland. The work being done by the charity building relationships across these islands has never been more important and I look forward to making a contribution," Sir George said.
